Roberte Ce Soir and the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes: And the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes
Published in Paperback by Dalkey Archive Pr (February, 2002)
Authors: Pierre Klossowski, Austryn Wainhouse, and Michael Perkins
Average review score:

French erotica of the XXth century.
Pierre Klossowski is one of the greatest modern french writers along with Georges Bataille. He's responsible for the rediscovery of figures such as Sade and Nietzche. He is the brother of the recently late painter Balthus. This book has two works, both of them part of a trilogy entitled Les lois de l'hospitalité (the rules or laws of hospitality) and they're concerned with sexuality and philosophy, libertine literature at its best. Roberte is the wife of Octave, a writer whose works are banned due to pornographic reasons by a group of the goverment of which Roberte is a member. The keeper of morals and the anti-moralist live in the same house, that's a good theme, a perverse one. This book may be a little hard to follow since not everybody is familiar with abstract thought (like me) but then again, art has its ways of getting through. I recomend it highly.

Roman imperial architecture
Published in Unknown Binding by Penguin Books ()
Author: J. B. Ward-Perkins
Average review score:

Sites and Insights
I found this book to be an excellent, even masterly, coverage of the subject. It is bound by its period, but still gives a sense of the continuity of architectural development from the native Italian, Etruscan, Hellenic and particularly the Hellenistic influences on the growth of Roman architecture into and through the Imperial period. It also covers the continuity of architectural styles, technologies and traditions into the Romanesque period.
I liked the way in which the author covered the regional influences on architecture in the various parts of the Roman world, especially contrasting the East, with its substantial existing traditions, styles and techniques, with the "frontier" type of situation in the West, where the new introduction of Roman technologies and styles all but eclipsed those which had gone before.
The author's writing style seemed the relaxed intimations of a man comfortable with his mastery of the material and without the need to prove himself. I found a particular enjoyment in the tone of someone enjoying passing on the details of his favourite subject.
I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone interested in the way the Romans solved some of the universal challenges of a built environment.

Authors: Roberta Perkins and Garrett Prestage
Average review score:

The quintessential book on the sex industry in austrailia
Sex Work and Sex Workers in Austrailia is one of the most comprehensive books on the sex industry that I have ever read. This book's main focus is on prostitution and it is broken down on many levels:female, male, transsexual, health care, oral histories, and foreign workers(eg. Thai). It is very easy to read and one leaves this book with an excellent history lesson as well as viewpoints from both men and women which balances this book. Highest Recommendation!

A mirror into the heart of many girls . . .
Shannon's Mirror is the story a teenage girl who goes on a diet with a friend. But a diet is not where it ends. Soon, Shannon's eating gets out of control. No matter what her weight is, she always feels fat and self-conscious. Shannon realizes she is getting weaker and she finds it hard to keep up with her daily activities. But she will do anything to be thin. Shannon runs to keep thin. She even goes out in the middle of the night so her parents don't realize how obsessed she is with her weight. Eventually, Shannon is too weak to do her daily tasks and she is put in the hospital where she is monitored. There is a shocking ending that is unexpected. It's a sad but a true to life story that we see all the time. This book provides us with a window to see into the hearts of many girls with the same battle that Shannon had.

Shattering the Myth of Race: Genetic Realities and Biblical Truths
Published in Paperback by Judson Pr (December, 2000)
Authors: Dave, Phd Unander and John M. Perkins
Average review score:

Very highly recommended reading for personal and group study
In Shattering The Myth Of Race: Genetic Realities And Biblical Truths, Dave Unander addresses the concept of race from a Christian perspective while surveying race and economics; slavery and abolition in the United States; the development of genetics as a biological science; DNA comparison studies; and evolutionary genetics as an argument for "racial superiority". Of particular interest is Unander's concluding chapter "A Christian Perspective on Race: Personal Reflections". Very highly recommended reading for personal and group studies, the informative, thoughtful text is enhanced with an epilogue and a list of references.

GREAT BOOK!!
Excellent Book!!!! This book was a required reading for my Modern Social Theory course. I didn't think I would enjoy it, however, I absolutely loved it! It was humorous while hinting at the darker parts of our postmodern society. I would suggest this book to anybody and everybody! Thank you Don Dellilo

Software Goes to School: Teaching for Understanding With New Technologies
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (January, 1995)
Authors: David N. Perkins, Judah L. Schwartz, Mary Maxwell West, and Martha S. Wiske
Average review score:

Thoughtful compilation of essays
The book has a set of well-written essays that cover a range of topics. The essays also have good bibliographies. The book is dated 1995, but still seems completely relevant -- I just hope they do a year 2000 version. Highly recommended for people thinking about, or designing products, that are intended to increase student learning.

Eye opener
This is an excellent book, a definite read for any open-mided Christian. I learned more about Jesus, and his teachings from this book than I did from going to church for 18 years
